Suspension Upgrades

Horsepower means nothing if your suspension can't put it to the ground. Coilovers versus lowering springs is the first choice to make — coilovers give you adjustable ride height and damping, making them the right call for any build that sees both street and track duty; lowering springs are simpler and cheaper but lock you into a fixed spring rate. Spring rate matching to your car's weight transfer characteristics is critical for drag builds: too soft and you'll lift the front wheels before the weight transfers; too stiff and you'll bog the tires on launch. Sway bars and subframe connectors are the overlooked half of the equation. A muscle car chassis without subframe connectors is flexing its unibody under every launch — that chassis flex is robbing you of 60-foot times and making the car unpredictable. Add connectors before you chase spring rates. For classic Chevys, Pontiacs, and Mopars, bolt-in subframe connectors take an afternoon and transform how the car feels. Always factor in alignment after any suspension work — lowering 1.5" or more changes your camber and caster enough to eat tires in a season.
